Body + Mind Gratitude
Fiery New Moon and Eclipse // 10.24.22
A new + beautiful way to experience Mondays
I am grateful for this body and this mind.
Let’s get hot pink about it!
Today’s mettā is about love for the shell you find your home in: your body. It’s about love for the thoughts and feelings inside of that shell: your mind. It’s about non-judgement of and compassionate listening to both.
I hear all the time, from my friends, yoga students, and in my own head: “my body is just… failing me today!” Sick before a big presentation, or a chronic injury is on its way back, with full force. Acne, somehow as a 40 year old, is coming in, or hair is falling out in small handfuls. Allergies, a cold, or worse. Too sore to do any movement, or too tired.
The body can only handle so much.
Your body isn’t failing you. You just aren’t listening to its signals.
When the body starts to grumble at you, whether it’s a small or large physical symptom, the mind is begging for a little ease. Feeling “run down” is a chance to rest. It’s a message to you: slow…down… s l o w… d o w n.
It sometimes feels impossible to take five minutes to close your eyes and breathe. It isn’t impossible. It’s necessary. Write this in hot pink across your closed eyelids: I am grateful for my body and for my mind.
So glad you’re here.

New Moon and Solar Eclipse
Tomorrow, Tuesday, we have a New Moon and a solar eclipse in Scorpio.* In Tarot cards, Scorpio symbols come up as literal scorpions in the fiery suit of Wands, able to walk through flames unscathed. This New Moon and eclipse might shake you up a little (or a lot), but you will come out of it stronger.
The New Moon comes to us at 6:48am US eastern time, so early early morning for the rest of the continent. Light your moon candle the evening before and let it burn throughout the night, and definitely, definitely, set a passionate intention for the weeks to come.
*I’m not an astrologist, so I can’t pretend to know what this all means. Yoga Journal has an informative article about tomorrow’s moon and eclipse.

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Black Kyanite // Seven of Pentacles
Famously the suit of abundance, the Pentacles here serve as a beautiful bounty of your hard harvesting work. This is both a joyful and contemplative card: note the seven flying horses and seven butterflies, each color making up a rainbow. Rainbows, in the Tarot, symbolize joy and completion. Your hard work and efforts have paid off. And yet, there is contemplation as well: note the heart pentacle in the middle of her chest. Reflect on what you had to do to get here and if it was “worth” it. Any abundance you have gained over the past weeks, months, or years should be gained, as the Buddhists say, with “Right Action,” “Right Effort,” or “Right Livelihood.” Act with generosity, honesty, and kindness in mind and your gains will multiply.
Card 2: Bird's Eye Rhyolite // Four of Swords
Oh, I love this card, and it’s perfect for this question. Here we have a symbolic hibernation, a journey inward, time spent alone and in understanding of who you are at your core. This card asks you to listen to your inner self, above all else. Some of us have incredible instinct and trust it immediately. Some of us develop this skill over time, learning to trust ourselves, finding out, first, who our “selves” are. Either way, you’ll need to stay quiet for a bit in order to decide: am I doing, feeling, and being who I am? And when you’re ready, you must communicate. The Swords are the cards of communication. Once you take the time to listen to your inner voice, use your actual voice to speak to who you are.
Card 3: Black Obsidian // King of Wands
You literally have your hero right here! The King of Wands is here to protect you in any way you need it. Look back at him as you go about your week, using his power as a reminder of your own. As if you needed more symbolism, look to the lions for strength, to the dragons for courage, and to the fire itself for ferocity. Symbols help us, in ritual or in daily life, to become more mindful and to focus on what we are doing or thinking. So in this case, use these symbols in your meditation or as you wake up each morning this week. Give yourself all the reminders you need: you are strong, courageous, and fierce.
