Monday Mettā
A new + beautiful way to experience Mondays
I am at ease with myself. I am at ease in my surroundings.
You, and all people, are not only allowed, but it is your right to feel at ease with who and where you are. Say it and breathe it. I am at ease. I am at ease. I am able to feel at ease.
You have the right to be in relationships that are generally easy.
You have the right to be safe and comfortable at home.
You have the right to trust and love your body, skin, and all that’s in it.
Sometimes, that stuff that feels impossible starts with a deep breath and a whisper to yourself.
I am at ease with myself. I am at ease with my surroundings.
✨
So glad you’re here.

📚Rachel’s Recommendations
Ask Again, Yes by Mary Beth Keene. Another author I was able to see speak live, and a book that riveted me. It’s a story about two young kids, neighbors, who experience a night of complete transformation when a violent episode occurs. The family members, in both sets of families, are chronicled. Mary Beth Keene also does a great job of setting part of the book in 90’s suburbia, which I totally related to.
The Sleeping Car Porter by Suzette Mayr. This book got me with its style. Suzette writes about a Black, queer sleeping car porter in 1920s Canada on a fateful trip across the country from Toronto to Vancouver. Her writing is like the chug of a train—insistent, continuous, and without breaks. As we follow Baxter throughout his train car, we hear snippets of the lives of the passengers, and we understand more about Baxter’s life before his porter days and his dreams of becoming a dentist. It’s a really well-researched and interesting book.
Children of Sugarcane by Joanne Joseph. A story that took her years to write, and is partially based on the experiences of her great grandparents. It takes place in India and South Africa, mostly in the late 1800s, when Shanti, a young girl, travels to the sugarcane plantations of Natal. I can’t summarize much more without immediately giving away surprising plot points!
Hotel Nantucket by Elin Hilderbrand. A beach read sent to you in the last gasps of summer. I love Elin Hilderbrand, zoom through her books, and this one was as good as any of them! A haunted hotel on Nantucket during the summer months and a chronicling of the characters that work and stay there… what could be more fun?

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Blue Aventurine // Ten of Swords
There’s an ending happening with you, which always means a new beginning is around the corner. In this case, you may feel betrayed, or “stabbed in the back,” by this ending, but please know it only goes up from here. Notice the rainbow coming out from behind the figure’s heart chakra… The rainbow, often associated with the number 10, signals beauty and a journey to come. Proceed with the knowledge that you are on the right path, even if you’re veering a little.
Card 2: Moonstone // The Fool
Ok, you’re feeling a little chaotic because you’re at the very beginning of something, something so new you might not even know what it is yet! Without realizing it, perhaps, you’ve ended a cycle and gone on to the next, and it’s a little scary starting out. This card is not “foolish,” instead it’s about trusting your instincts and moving forward, even when it seems there’s obstacles in the way. As you move forward on your next path, you will feel more relaxed, because you’re doing what’s authentic to you.
Card 3: Blue Chalcedony // The Lovers
Ask for help! Find a buddy! Connect with a new friend, make time to seek advice from old ones! This card is about relationships. If you’ve started something new and don’t quite know what you’re doing or if you’re supposed to be there, connect with people in your same position, or with mentors who can reassure and strategize with you. You are not alone, and reaching out will be your best move.

Hi Rachel! I love coming to find my weekly tarot reading here every Monday. I am going to start writing it down and looking at it throughout the week (or at least reflect at the end of the week). I’m interested in learning more about your Zoom public yoga class offerings! What time zone do you practice in?
