May I be Free...
but not be indifferent // 5.16.22
Monday Mettā
a new + beautiful way to experience Mondays
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
May [insert someone you love without restraint] be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
May [insert someone you have neutral feelings for] be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
May [insert someone you struggle with] be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
May all beings be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
These words, or this prayer, is attributed to Thich Nhat Hanh, and is the final line of his Nine Prayers. Thanks for following along with me as we spent the past two months thinking about and meditating on these words.
As always, begin with yourself— the importance of self-loving-kindness is vital. Then, send mettā out to others. Begin with someone you deeply love, with no complications. Move to someone you simply know, with no expectations. Then send these words to someone you struggle with, imagining them with love. Finally, send out these words to the planet.
The Nine Prayers
May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May I be free from injury. May I live in safety.
May I be free from disturbance, fear, and anxiety.
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in myself.
May I know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself every day.
May I be able to live fresh, solid and free.
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.

🌗 Full Moon: Flower Moon 🌗
In case you missed it in last week’s newsletter, today’s moon (for those of us in Eastern time and beyond this full moon is today, for those in Central time and before, it was last night) is this year’s first Supermoon (the moon’s orbit is realllll close to Earth) and is also a total lunar eclipse. The Earth will shade the moon, sitting between it and the sun, which will give it a red hue. So, it’s also called a Blood Moon!
I’m bringing in the power of the Full Flower Moon by lighting my moon candle and letting it rest in a bowl of water, which I sprinkled with dried flowers sent to me by creative alchemist Sarah Greenman and sage sent to me by the lovely Leonor.

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Jade // Knight of Cups
Forward movement is already happening for you right now. Lead with your heart, moving towards what makes you feel most like YOU. Your path might not be an easy one (note the labyrinth—this ancient symbol represents the maze one must walk to find their true self and the space in which they feel most at home) but it is a worthwhile endeavor. Let your motivation for what’s to come be love: love of what you do, love of the people you surround yourself with, love of your own self.
Card 2: Chrysoprase // Seven of Swords
There couldn’t be a more perfect card for you right now. It’s time to look back into the past and decide what to get rid of. In this card, the stag stands by his reflection, the younger fawn of his past. In the pond there is a collection of swords: four of the seven swords are fully immersed. Those swords represent thoughts, ideas, words, and hurts that you are meant to leave behind. You don’t have to forget your younger self but as you grow you must be brave enough to let the past go. Your past experiences can no longer define you. Do not introduce yourself to the present with your wounds from the past.
Card 3: Green Aventurine // The Emperor
Lots of messages for you in this card! Whatever it is you are taking a chance on, do so with all of your ducks in a row—don’t just jump in. Stabilize yourself by planning for any scenario, by practicing patience and calm for the scenario that you couldn’t imagine, and by moving forward logically. The Emperor’s general message is one of reliability and deep connection. Whenever this card is pulled, you can be sure you will be called upon to lead. By acknowledging your power in leadership, you will be ready to take your chance.
