Monday Mettā
a new + beautiful way to experience Mondays
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May [insert someone you love without restraint] learn to look at themself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May [insert someone you have neutral feelings for] learn to look at themself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May [insert someone you struggle with] learn to look at themself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May all beings learn to look at themselves with the eyes of understanding and of love.
These words, or this prayer, is attributed to Thich Nhat Hanh, and is the fourth line of his Nine Prayers. Self-understanding and self-love is something we’re born with, but is almost immediately called into question as we are brought up and socialized. “May I learn to look at myself with understanding and love” is a practice, a re-education of ourselves.
As you meditate on these words, start with yourself— the importance of self-loving-kindness is vital. Then, send mettā out to others. Begin with someone you deeply love, with no complications. Move to someone you simply know, with no expectations. Then send these words to someone you struggle with, imagining them with love. Finally, send out these words to the planet.
The Nine Prayers
May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May I be free from injury. May I live in safety.
May I be free from disturbance, fear, and anxiety.
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in myself.
May I know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself every day.
May I be able to live fresh, solid and free.
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.

🌗 Full Moon and Spring Equinox 🌗
This month’s full moon, commonly called the Pink Moon, falls amidst Passover and Easter, on Saturday, April 16th. I love when stars like this align (which they are meant to do, anyway!). In fact, Easter, a spring festival, is designed to fall on the day after the first full moon of springtime. The moon is called the Pink Moon because when this moon blooms, so does one of the first flowers of spring: a wildflower called “moss pink,” or phlox subulata. (As usual, I get a lot of my moon info from the Farmer’s Almanac.)
At many traditional Jewish seders, we open the door for Elijah the Prophet, a symbolic gesture that reminds us to welcome in all those who seek shelter and nourishment in both body and spirit. This is a tenant of the Jewish faith—to support all those who need it. The Jewish Federation, who right now is working to bring refugees from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and other countries all over the globe to safety, is one of many organizations that could use support in honor of the spirit of community.
To all those who celebrate this weekend, may your tables have food aplenty, lots of love, and be welcoming to all.

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Red Jasper // Ace of Cups
Your words of courage today are to embody what is in your heart. This could mean very different things for different people: perhaps a signal to speak up with honesty, a call to work on some self-love and compassion (see today’s Mettā meditation!), or a walk through the world embodying the HIGHEST version of yourself (moving through your day as if you have everything you need and desire). This card is a reminder that it takes courage to be our true selves, but it doesn’t take a lot of effort. It takes more effort to hide.
Card 2: Picture Jasper // Princess of Cups
This card is very much about looking inward, connecting with your own intuition and emotional depths, and opening up your heart. By doing those three things, you’ll tap into a well of creativity you knew was in there, but weren’t sure you were able to get out. This card also symbolizes the start of a new creative endeavor, and asks you to look deeply into your dreams and any messages you receive in your waking life. These symbols will help jump-start your next project (just don’t forget to record them when you see them!).
Card 3: Blue Lace Agate // Prince of Swords
Well you got the swords, which is the suit of communication, so the cards are reading you right today. The message of the Prince is to look upon your communication with a wide perspective. As you talk with others, take a few, or like, 40, steps back and look at the conversation with a birds-eye view (note the ravens). As you do this, you’ll be able to see corners of the conversation that you would have missed otherwise. Often, this means you will want to listen more than you speak, and when you do speak, be sure to notice how your words land, and adjust accordingly.
