May I be at peace with my decisions.
I’m someone who makes, remakes, and then agonizes over so many decisions. Simple decisions can turn into an hours-long debate in my head. Ask me to make a decision that actually matters, and I’m often paralyzed. Mindfulness helps.
Today’s mettā is for people like me, and for all people, for whom a recent decision has been a challenging one to make. A wise psychologist at the Beth Israel Pain Clinic once told me that there are only two decisions that really matter: who to share your life with and whether what you do next will cause you grave mental/emotional/physical harm. All other decisions can be mulled over, but there’s no need for agony. Coming to peace with a decision, even if it is the “wrong” one, makes the process of decision making and the fallout/benefit/reaction less meaningful.
Sometimes, all I need to do is stop, take a deep breath in, and close my eyes. In the momentary quiet, I can just ask for peace in my decision making. More often than not, the “right” answer comes to me and I feel content. But only if I’m quiet. Only if I am at peace.

🌗 Full Moon🌗
On August 11th at 9:36pm (eastern) there is a Full Moon- and it’s a big one! It’s a supermoon!! This means the moon is just a little closer to earth (due to orbits and stuff) and will be bigger and brighter and, IMO, more powerful for all your rituals.
An article in The Cut explains the power of Full Moons well, and reading it reminded me that Full Moons aren’t just bright and shiny moments for a nice meditation. Full Moons also bring some chaos, an illumination of relationships or self that need confronting, and often govern our gut emotions and actions. When I was a teacher, Full Moons nearly ALWAYS meant some kid inexplicably tossed his entire binder in the air and watched as their notebook paper fell piece by piece. There was always a bloody nose. In a mass-consciousness kind of way, Full Moons meant the kids all acted like they had each eaten an entire pillowcase of Halloween candy.
Although I do suggest a calming ritual, preferably in water since the lunar cycles govern our planet’s tides, this is also a reminder that things may get a little… wild on the night of a Full Moon. Good luck, and enjoy!

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Onyx // Five of Swords
Every emotion can be used either in a way that is harmful or helpful. While I don’t particularly believe in labeling emotions as “negative”—every emotion is here to teach us something— I do believe that every emotion can be a “double-edged sword.” And here we have the Five of Swords to teach us that exact lesson. Whether it’s appearing as anger, frustration, or unfocused energy, your aggression can be massaged into strength and power. Notice the division of this card, the black and white, the swords and the hearts. It’s a reminder that reflecting on the power of your aggressive behavior can lead to a gentle strength, instead of a frightening anger.
Card 2: Blue Aventurine // Strength
My sister and I joke that there should be a pill for people like me called “Empath-eze”—something to stop me from feeling the pain of the world. I typically need Empath-eze when I’m not doing so great myself: my pain will reflect on the faces and actions of others. This card, the 8 (infinity), is actually a reminder to be gentle (gentle and strength go hand in hand). Be gentle with yourself and your emotions, and be gentle in the judgements of others. Empathy can be a wonderful thing, but it also assumes a lot about the subject. Can you process someone’s pain without inserting your own feelings upon them?
Card 3: Jasper // Four of Wands
You need some stability in your life! The number four represents your home ground—your safety, your stability, your security. Pinpoint what is feeling chaotic right now and see how you can let some of it go. If it’s a friend, take a break from them for a bit. If it’s work, find a way to assert boundaries. If it’s a creative pursuit (as the wands are the suit of creativity and passion), clock what’s draining you and what isn’t, and take a pause from the draining stuff. Sometimes we don’t even notice what’s draining us until we sit down to make a list. Make your list and see what you can step back from this week.
