Monday Mettā
a new + beautiful way to experience Mondays
May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May [insert someone you love without restraint] be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May [insert someone you have neutral feelings for] be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May [insert someone you struggle with] be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May all beings be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
I’ve been listening to Thich Nhat Hanh’s book, Fear: Essential Wisdom For Getting Through The Storm, and have been feeling a kind of relief hearing his words. Instead of reinventing the mettā wheel, for the next nine weeks, I’ll parse out his Nine Prayers, delivering one a week. (I’ve included the entirety of the mediation here, as well.)*
As you meditate on these words, start with yourself— the importance of self-loving-kindness is vital. Then, feel free to send mettā out to others. Begin with someone you deeply love, with no complications. Move to someone you simply know, with no expectations. Then send these words to someone you struggle with, imagining them with love. Finally, send out these words to the planet.

The Nine Prayers
May I be peaceful, happy, and light in body and spirit.
May I be free from injury. May I live in safety.
May I be free from disturbance, fear, and anxiety.
May I learn to look at myself with the eyes of understanding and of love.
May I be able to recognize and touch the seeds of joy and happiness in myself.
May I learn to identify and see the sources of anger, craving, and delusion in myself.
May I know how to nourish the seeds of joy in myself every day.
May I be able to live fresh, solid and free.
May I be free from attachment and aversion, but not be indifferent.
So glad you’re here.

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Opalite // The Hanged One
It’s important, right now, to withdraw. Your personal power and self-confidence are being neglected, and by introspection (which often shifts perspective), you’ll be able to take hold of what you are missing. For example, now might be the right time to take a social break, or to acknowledge a worn-out habit and take a week off. As you feel opinions of others begin to fade, you’ll be able to grow a clear and powerful vision of yourself.
Card 2: Snowflake Obsidian // Two of Cups
Is there a go-to person in your life that helps you to feel more yourself? Who doesn’t judge you, but instead supports you by being clear, honest, and reflecting your experiences back to you? Find that person and connect with them this week. The great loves of our lives (not necessarily romantic) are those who reflect back to us an honest and compassionate view. Let your great love be an anchor. They will help you feel stable and comforted throughout stormy days.
Card 3: Green Aventurine // Six of Pentacles
This IS a card of abundance and prosperity (!!), but only if you balance what you get with what you give. Practice the art of giving and receiving, gracefully. Find a way to reach out and donate (your time, energy, money) and, when you receive something in return, accept it without apology. If you need any ideas, I’ve been reading Buy Better, Consume Less, which clearly lays out how anyone can use their voice, talents, and time to actually activate change in BIG ways (I’m talking big corporation ways, political ways, etc).
