What's Possible
Reflections on January // 2.6.23
Monday Mettā
A new + beautiful way to experience Mondays.
I am willing to see what’s possible.
May all beings be willing to see what’s possible.
Being open to possibilities allows us to a) move with flexibility through life and b) get clear on what it is we aspire to. The more clear we are, and the more flexible we are when things inevitably shift around us, the more opportunities we become open to. More on that, below…
✨
So glad you’re here.

Reflections on January
This January has been a lesson in clarity, flexibility, and balance. I spent four days in a silent Yin yoga and meditation retreat. I then took almost two weeks off from work to take part in a writing residency in Wisconsin. 36 hours after flying back, my husband and I moved homes. I went from boxes to hours of stillness to immersing myself in my writing to boxes to a new home. It was quite a month.
A few years ago, I would have never taken this kind of time or activity for myself. Retreats were for other, more selfish people with a lot of time and money on their hands (I was too busy, too tired, too bitter). Writing anything was for people who thought they had something to say (the audacity!). Moves were too exhausting (did I mention I was always too tired?). The costs would have felt too great and I certainly didn’t think I deserved to be “selfish”.
I treat my life differently now because I have experienced, in a big way, what it feels like to hurl forward without stopping until forced to. I have experienced what it feels like to make huge choices in order to become more of myself. I have experienced being open to possibility, so open that possibility seems endless. This past month felt not like the outcome of that possibility, but the middle of it. The middle is even more exciting, because what’s next is also what’s possible.
There was a lot of gratitude and joy that permeated my January, some of which I’ll share here in the coming weeks, but my big, immediate gratitudes are here:
Write On, Door County, a beautiful organization in Wisconsin, which encourages writers at all stages to sit quietly and create. I have not yet published a damn word, and they still invited me to work on whatever I wanted. I also got to teach a Yin yoga and meditative journaling class while I was there, which was delightful. If you are any kind of writer, I encourage you to apply for their residency. Applications close April 1.
My teachers and mentors Sarah and Ty Powers, who reminded me to cultivate living in an extraordinary way with everyday ordinariness, who asked me to reflect on the preciousness of my life, and who gave me the opportunity to find my perfect flow.
Husband, who, among other things, made a lot of trips to Goodwill while I was away.
Friends & family who talked me through January’s hard bits and celebrated the glorious parts and chatted about nothing in-between.
My body, heart, and mind. Always grateful for the ability to move, to feel, and to wonder.
With Gratitude,
There are three beautiful ways you can support my work writing and teaching!
Make a micro-donation, either through Buy Me a Coffee (or in my case, a love note), or after you’ve listened to one of my meditations on Insight Timer.

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Agate // The Hanged One
You may need to destabilize yourself even more to turn right-side up again. It’s time for an intentional walk outside of your normal boundaries—literally moving the balance scale and tipping it to see what it will take to right itself again. I’m not telling you to go skydiving necessarily, but am letting you know that a period of discomfort might be the challenge your ideally balanced life is calling for. That discomfort may simply be a dinner out alone! It doesn’t have to be life-transforming. But it does have to shift your idea of what’s possible.
Card 2: Carnelian // The Wheel of Fortune
This card is has a few great reminders in it. 1: life is all ups and downs and moments in-between. If you’re at a particularly “down” time right now, maybe all the courage you need is a reminder that “up” is coming. 2: you have angels (or people) in your corner. The Wheel of Fortune has four figures in each corner, each representing guidance and stability. If you are feeling a lack of courage, call upon your people for help. 3: focus on or simply acknowledge your power. Notice the palm in the center, with the light emanating from it. You have all the power in the world to face what you need to.
Card 3: Black Obsidian // Death
Not only are you ready to face your negative tendencies, you are ready to let them go (or die, if we’re following the exact logic of the card). What a great card to pull for this desire! As you relax the cycles of negativity you know you participate in on a daily basis, you’ll have room for more open and possibly more positive tendencies to come in. It’s a great reminder, though, that you must replace your negatives with something more loving. Getting rid of the negatives without replacing them with love will only cause more black holes. Practical tip: when I have a bad habit I’m trying to break, anytime I find myself doing it, I stop and affirm something positive about myself. It doesn’t work every time, but it helps.
