You're Invited! NYD Retreat and More
May I be Well // 12.13.21
A new + beautiful way to experience Mondays.
May I be Well. May I feel Ease. May I and all beings feel Well and Loved.
The thing about Mettā is that it’s about you first. I was reminded of this during a Dharma talk I attended this week put on by the Insight Yoga Institute. The speaker, Tripti, reminded us that Mettā has to start with loving kindness for the self. Like we are always told when we fly: put your oxygen mask on first. Then, you will be safe and available to assist others.
I used to end with “May I,” and begin with “May all beings.” Perhaps it was easier for me to direct love out than to usher it in. I’d likely guess many of you reading this feel similarly.
So, let’s flip it and give ourselves the air we need! By holding ourselves in love, we can then share it with others.
May I be well.
So glad you’re here.

🌗 Moon Info This Week! 🌗
Full Moon alert! It’s on Saturday, December 18th, in the US (11:36pm eastern), and on Sunday, December 19th in Europe.
I love learning about the original names for the Full Moons. This one is called the Cold Moon because… it’s cold right now. It’s also called the Long Night Moon (Mahican) because of it’s proximity to the Winter Solstice and the Moon of Popping Trees (Oglala), which makes sense ‘cause of all that frost cracking, among others. In ancient European traditions it was also called the Moon Before Yule.
This full moon is in Gemini, and full moons are here to illuminate the parts of us that need it. Make sure to communicate your needs to yourself and others.
There are so many fun ways to celebrate a full moon, including putting a cup or bowl of water by the window overnight and letting the moonlight shine into it. When you wake up, you’ll have a little bit of lunar water at your fingertips, which you can drink, water plants with, cleanse crystals, or add to your bath.

Your Tarot Reading, Revealed!
Card 1: Black Tourmaline // Eight of Swords. Right now, the best strategy for you is to set clear boundaries around communication (swords is the suit of communication). Turn a blind eye (notice her blindfold) to your work email, Slack notifications, and texts. Apple’s most recent IOS update has a new focus mode- it might be nice to try it out for a few weeks at home to block out any work notifications. But you also need to look inside and connect with why your work energy takes up so much space in your home life. Are you avoiding something at home, or feeling uncomfortable? Does work provide an outlet? No judgement here, just look with interest, and go from there.
Card 2: Snowflake Obsidian // Ace of Swords. Victimhood is often our “ace,” the thing we pull out in conversation when we need a “win.” While there are some experiences that truly victimize us, we don’t need to use that mentality to manipulate others. Your experiences actually give you strength! This card is a reminder that you have a strong sense of self, and by leading with that, your conversations with others and yourself will be smoother. Caroline Myss, holistic healer, writer, educator, and speaker, has a great blog about cultivating compassion for the inner victim.
Card 3: Black Obsidian // Page of Cups. Oh hey there! It’s time to have a little fun! To cultivate that thing you’ve forgotten about, a little thing called JOY. You know how you build in time to brush your teeth (hopefully), or exercise, or watch TV? Build in time for joy, especially if it’s something you haven’t felt in a long while. Turn on your favorite song and dance around, or make a batch of cookies and instead of cooking them, eat the batter. I recently took a quick watercolor tutorial with Sarah Greenman and found a lot of joy in the low-stakes act of creating. The Page of Cups is a cheeky, joyful being, and it will do you some good to follow his lead.
